April Fair Housing Month

This year, we commemorate the 55th anniversary of the passage of the Fair Housing Act, the landmark civil rights law signed by President Lyndon B. Johnson on April 11, 1968, that made discrimination in housing transactions unlawful. On April 11, 2022, Honorable Dr. Richard W. West, Mayor of the City of Chesapeake, presented a proclamation to commemorate April as “National Fair Housing Month” to Chesapeake Redevelopment and Housing Authority. It was received by Dr. Adams, Chair Board President; John Kownack, Executive Director; Nancy Tarkenton, Deputy Executive Director and Nellie Sanchez, Housing and Community Development Specialist.
